After a little explanation on why this post is written in english, I start with the issue that motivates me to write it.
I bought a PlayStation 3 gaming console and I want to play online using my wireless internet connection, the configuration on the PS3 was really easy and everything looks good but when I tried to play PES 2010 online, I have an error that says that UDP 3658 port wasn’t open so I can’t connect to PSN, it says that I had to put the PS3 on DMZ on the router or do port forwarding in order to access to PSN and play online.

I have a Netgear WGT624 v3 Router that go out to internet through a Thomson Modem (my ISP is Une from Colombia) and the method to connect to internet is PPPoE, if you have a different one, this post won’t help you, but just for you to check, the key in the configuration is having a public IP address on the internet port of your router.

When I tried to configure port forwarding or DMZ I have no success, the PS3 was saying that NAT Type was 3 (Type 3 means that you can’t access completely or without restrinctions to internet) and the type that you need (if you use a router) is Type 2. I tried resetting the router and leave the default configurations but it doesn’t work either. I was about to give up with the router and bought a new one but I think that maybe I can have same problems too.

So I decided to read everything I could about this subject and finally in Netgear Forums I have a light and I tried what I was told there. Basically, the Modem has to be in “bridge mode” in order to avoid double NAT (Router and Modem), you have to take away routing functions from Modem and leave them to the router, as well as PPPoE authentication.

This post is being quite long, so, lets get to the point: I make this PDF for you to complete the configuration you need.

I hope this can help you out.

Don’t Worry………Be Linux!!!!!!!!!!!
